This collection consists of Cowan family papers, including a letter from James Neill to Harry Cowan, two autograph books of Maggie Olive Cowan, Laurel Grove cemetery plot titles, John Robert Cowan's birth certificate, Harry W. Cowen and Maggie P. Oliver's marriage license, a log by Charles Samuel Oliver of his journey on The Brunswick, two performance programs and a photograph of a family picnic at Potters Grove, 1886.

George Cowen (ca. 1820-1887) was born in Scotland and moved to Savannah, Georgia, with his wife, Jane Widdrington Horsley and their sons, John Robert Cowan (1849-1915) and Harry Widdrington Cowan. Harry Widdrington Cowan's first wife was Maggie P. Oliver (ca. 1864-1908), a native of Georgia. The family name was originally "Cowen," but changed to "Cowan." From the description of Lena O.
